Why We Make Soap in Maine 🌊

There's something special about making something with your own hands.

For us, making soap in Maine has never been just about making a product. It's about where we live, the people we love, the places that inspire us, and the story we want Maine Island Soap to tell.

Maine has always been a big part of who we are.

The rocky coastline. The smell of the ocean. The forests. The small towns. The islands. The quiet mornings and the changing seasons. These are the things we see and experience every day, and they naturally find their way into what we create.

That's why so many of our soaps are inspired by Maine.

But there's another reason we make our soap here.

We believe in making things ourselves.

Maine Island Soap began in 1984, and while our look has evolved over the years β€” most recently with a fresh new chapter for the brand β€” one thing has never changed: our desire to create something we're proud to put our name on.

From choosing our essential oils and ingredients to making, curing, cutting, packaging, and shipping our soap, there are a lot of steps involved before one of our bars ever reaches your hands.

And we love that.

There is something incredibly rewarding about taking raw ingredients and turning them into something that eventually becomes part of someone's everyday life.

Maybe it's the bar of Lavender Seaweed sitting beside someone's kitchen sink.

Maybe it's a Blueberry Swirl bar that reminds someone of a summer vacation in Maine.

Maybe it's a bar of Morning Mint that makes someone smile because it brings back memories of the coast.

Or maybe someone discovers our soap while visiting Maine and takes a few bars home β€” only to order more months later because they want a little piece of Maine delivered to their doorstep.

Those are the moments that make all the hard work worthwhile.

Being a small Maine business isn't always easy. There are long days, rising costs, and production challenges β€” shipping boxes to pack, wholesale orders to fill, and plenty of things that don't go according to plan. But there's also something incredibly special about building something right here.

We get to work together, create together, and watch Maine Island Soap continue to grow.

And every time one of our soaps leaves our shop and heads to a customer somewhere in Maine or across the country, we know that a little piece of what we've built here is going with it.

That's why we make soap in Maine.

Not because it's the easiest place to build a business.

Because it's home.

And we can't imagine Maine Island Soap being made anywhere else.

Thank you for supporting our small, Maine-made business and for being part of our story. πŸ’œπŸ§Ό
